Supporting Education
Rotary’s goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.
Why is supporting education so important?
More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate.
That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.
How does Rotary support education?
Rotary clubs around the world mobilize, leveraging their time, money, and expertise to open schools, teach adults and children to read, make schools healthy, provide books and enhance educational systems. They also raise funds locally and utilize the financial resources of The Rotary Foundation.
Our Southeastern Pennsylvania District’s clubs have donated thousands of books to schoolchildren to take home, mentored students struggling to read, and helped re-open public school libraries.
Our District also provides youth programs that strengthen leadership and learning for teens, such as Rotary Youth Leadership Awards weekend, Rotary Speech Contest, Youth Exchange, and organizing their own Rotary youth clubs.
