Protecting the Environment

Rotary members are tackling environmental issues the way they always do: coming up with projects, using their connections to change policy and planning for the future.

Rotary is committed to supporting activities that strengthen the conservation and protection of natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. We empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation in an effort to address the causes and reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.

Our Southeastern Pennsylvania District’s clubs support the local environment by helping to construct and maintain community gardens, plant trees, and clean and maintain local neighborhoods and public parks.

For Earth Day, Upper Main Line Rotary volunteers teamed up with the students of Conestoga High School Interact Club to clean up the gardens around the Veterans Memorial at Wilson Farm Park outside Philadelphia.

Members of Rotary clubs in the Houston area work in a community garden built by the Rotaract Club of Seabrook at Evelyn Meador Branch Library in Seabrook, Texas, USA.

In 2022-23, the Rotary Foundation issued $3.3 million in global grants alone aimed at protecting the environment.

One of the Rotary Action Groups, Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG), unites people to take action to protect our environment for a sustainable future.  ESRAG, gathers individuals, experts and partners whose goal is to provide awareness, dialogue, resources, and best practices for the environment. ESRAG also assists the Rotary family to plan, run, and evaluate projects, programs, and practices that support actions in the Environment Area of Focus and address the triple planetary crisis.
