Providing Clean Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
Clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education are basic necessities for a healthy environment and a productive life.
Rotary supports local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away. We share our expertise with community leaders and educators to make sure our projects succeed long-term.
An estimated 2.5 billion people lack access to improved sanitation facilities. There are few other issues in the world that can impact the health, education, economy, and equality and progress of people that need clean water and sanitation.
The Rotary Foundation, working with clubs around the world, has invested more than $148 million in water resource management intervention worldwide. Through partnerships like Rotary-USAID WASH, and the Rotary Action Group WASH, Rotary Clubs, local governments, schools, healthcare facilities and other agencies have been able to join forces to leverage their collective knowledge and financial resources to provide safe water, sanitation, and hygiene programs to communities in need.
Our Southeastern Pennsylvania District’s clubs have been helping as well by providing funding and championing their own WASH programs, such as the Water Pump Project in Senegal, Africa spearheaded by the Rotary Club of West Chester.
