Pan African Sisterhood Health Initiative

  • Park Avenue Community Center 129 Park Avenue Swarthmore, PA, 19081 United States (map)

Rotary Club of Swarthmore is thrilled to sponsor an upcoming community service project on Saturday, April 5th, from 12:30 pm to 3:00 pm. We'll be gathering at the Park Avenue Community Center (129 Park Ave, Swarthmore) for a hands-on experience that promises to be both rewarding and enjoyable.

This event is in collaboration with PASHI - Pan African Sisterhood Health Initiative, an intergenerational powerhouse dedicated to making and donating reusable menstrual pads and carry pouches to schools and organizations in Africa and beyond. Their mission is to empower young girls by providing them with free menstrual hygiene products, ensuring they don't miss out on educational opportunities due to lack of access.

We'll kick off the event with a brief presentation, followed by a demonstration on how these pads are made. Afterward, you'll have the chance to roll up your sleeves and contribute to this noble cause by creating these products alongside PASHI's dedicated team and our fellow community members. It's a wonderful opportunity to make new friends, build a stronger community, and enjoy great company over pizza and uplifting music.

PASHI's work extends beyond Africa, as they also distribute these essential items to those in need within the Tri-State area. Their programs teach middle and high school students in the Philadelphia region how to make these donations while imparting valuable life skills.

This event is open to all, regardless of age or gender. No prior sewing experience is required, as all necessary materials will be provided. However, if you'd like to contribute any notions, they are in need of:

  • Sewing Machines! Do you have one gathering dust, they'll take it off your hands and put it to good use.

  • New Cotton Panties (girls briefs, no thongs or bikinis. Sizes 8 16)

  • Threads (Black & Gray) Brand: Coats & Clarke dual duty

  • Zippers 9" or 12" any color

  • Sewing machine needles (Universal size 12/90 or 90/14)

  • PUL fabric (black or dark colors
